You,
a transpired thief
a benign bloke.
I,
like the way you motivate
like the way you interest me on uninterested topics
like the way you steal a stare
have been borrowed.
We,
automatically have a series of things
to talk about all the time
chat on for hours at end without pauses.
You,
a romantic-enabler
a scrumptious scoundrel.
I,
cannot escape from
and maybe have no desire to escape from
these pressure-cooker situations.
have been taken.
We,
would be ideal
however, conceptual.

Companion
In the distance
green leaves with hazel-coloured branches
covered the horizon arriving at the base of the sun setting
of summer silhouette folding and throwing paper planes
that was 10 years ago.
Pillows of clouds go by, unhurried
"There won't be any rain tonight", you babbled
In a fraction of a second,
you're high up among a sheet of viridescent layers of pine
I shouted, "Hey, wait up!".
Soaking in the hot evening breeze
figuring out paradise
"Can we forge it?", you asked
While, I outlined a castle in mid-air
with you in it.
Drowning in imprudent childhood reveries
I steal glimpses from an unarmed solidarity companion
A tinge of excitement trickles down my spine
when your wide-set honey eyes smile.

April - Poetry Month >> Written daily for 30 days
#TheDirtyThirty
Day 1
Colleagues who appear enemies
met up in pantry for a ketchup.
Day 2
He who favours precision
does not apply to ejaculation.
Day 3
When I paint my private dome
I was not aware that it'll take that long
So I took a turn in my 1968 Volk bus home
and then I realise that the turn is wrong.
Day 4
Paper cups, paper cuts
stained with coffee
hurts like hell.
Day 5
Language barrier
between France and China
was it "let's muwve on" or "let's moo on"?
Day 6
When she walks, she stomped the yard.
When she talks, she whispered the loudest.
Day 7
6 feet above, an Utopian life
6 feet below, a nonchalant existence.
Day 8
Water - transparent, odourless
Water - necessary, compulsory.
Day 9
Once, I set you adrift
un-anchored, without a purpose
but you found your way back
secured, oh what a circus!
Day 10
This heart of mine
it's like a well
filled when it rains
empty when it's dry
frozen during winter.
Day 11
It's 3AM
last call for whisky and beer
kitchen closed 3 hours ago
no where to go but I can't stay here
aimlessly I walked with hands in my invisible pocket
at the fork road I saw a 1968 Volk bus.. #Day3
Day 12
Some of us enjoy a good conversation
(without having to drink)
Some of us enjoy drinking
(without having to talk)
There are some of us from some of them who enjoy both - at the same time.
Day 13
Eat, eat, eat
finish your food, they decreed
Gobble, gobble, gobble
I'd rather sit in Barnes & Noble.
Day 14
Sitting in this 1959 Cadillac
as beautiful words unravel
passed by a bed of deep purple pansies
towards the unruffled permissive beach.
* Special thanks to Prem for suggesting the theme "beach". :)
Day 15: Lost & (Almost) Found
Sketches of unfinished work strewn on the floor
There, on the perfectly shattered glass island top
sprawled an entangled body gasping for a particular mental notion
got up, I turned to look at the time
the pendulum swings frantically
the hour hand had shifted far left
Oh, how the hours have gone by!
At the strike of 6, my tummy begins to rumble
it reminded me of the horrifying monsoon thunder
My feeble legs fumbled
with every step I'm falling deeper into the gaping hole of your lies
All I see is a faint light
shining the thorny path that leads to my uncontaminated escape
suspended from a thin rope, swaying left to right holding on for my dear life
Every inch of my limb throbs
Every move brings me one step closer to 6 feet under.
Destination uncertain
A wanderer, I don't have any sense of direction
My bare feet stopped on the many rudimentary edges
As I fix my gaze at the extended space over my head
A shadow figure of a hand stretches towards me
"Let me, help you." came an assuring voice
With all the might gathered, I fathom, "Take me away."
Day 16: Letter to someone you admire
Dear #DeanKoontz,
Suspense novelist
most popular, I might add
You have earned my devotion
In your printed pages, I'm immersed
The crickets sing, then the roosters' crow
I was jolted from my dewy-eyed slumber
still, chapter after chapter, I devour
Dean Koontz, you're my panacea.
Day 17: Unconditional #freewriting
Freshly trimmed hedgerows, stretched on for miles
merrily, I run my fingers through the unblemished plant
stepping on days of accumulated leathery moss
cautious not to slip and fall
but then, I met you.
A tall quintessential figure, standing by an oak bench
engrossed with what is within your range of vision
oblivious to an unpretentious woman approaching
I cleared my throat, "ehem", filing the deafening void
and by a hair's breadth, we were under each others' spell.
The unconditional acceptance for each others' flaws
The unconditional surrender for each others' love
The unconditional democracy for each others' wants
The unconditional equality for each others' needs
The unconditional commitment, to each other
An affair of the heart
has survived through the four seasons.
* Special thanks to Anna for contributing the theme, "unconditional". :)
Day 18: Letter to Younger Me
Dear 15-year old Sherilyn, don't change a thing.
Day 19: Letter to Future Me
Dear Sherilyn,
If you are at the top of the Victoria Falls Bridge
don't procrastinate, just jump!
If you are the base of Mount Everest
don't look back, hike till you reach the summit!
But if a blazing light is glaring at ya
do look back (at what have caused you to be here)
do procrastinate (that thought of running)
cause, my dear self, you are under arrest.
Day 20: Different writing technique
Prepossessing penitentiary personifies precipitate pardons
Inmates, ironically, ingested imported ideologies
Wacko wardens wail wearily while waddling
Cohabitation chaos correlating cunningly crafted characters.
Day 21: Culture
Since I was born,
the culture that I have been taught is how to live
to respect others even when they have nothing
to stay humble when you have nothing
to stay humble when you have everything
to obey the elders even if they are wrong (simply because they were born first *roll eyes*)
to stay hush-hush on the forbidden woes
to say "thank you" when someone lends a hand
and "sorry", when you have made a blunder.
One thing that is self-taught, though
is to be outspoken.
Day 22 : Letter to a Child Enduring War
I cannot channel the emotions on this one. Hence, I am sharing quotes from the movie, "About Time" as well as a song. It's a beautiful film with lots of life lessons.
Life's a mixed bag, no matter who you are.
The secret of happiness has two parts to it
Part 1: Live day by day like everyone else.
Part 2: Live every day again, almost exactly the same. The first time, with all the tensions and worries that stopped us noticing how sweet the world can be. But the second time, noticing.
Some days of course though, you only want to go through once.
So learn from your travels and time. Live every day as if you have deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of your extraordinary, ordinary life.
We're all traveling through time, together, every day of our lives. All we can do is do our best, to relish this remarkable ride. - About Time (2013)
Day 23: #villanelle
Waking up to broad daylight
The darkness of night did not leave a trace
Imagine, how gay it is to witness sunlight.
Trying to lay still with all my might
Gently, I peek to examine your serene face
Waking up to broad daylight.
With our backs to the lawn, gazing the moonlight
That touch of your silky skin sent me into a daze
Imagine, how gay it is to witness sunlight.
The sparkle in your eyes, signaling an invite
My love, you make my fragile heart race
Waking up to broad daylight.
You swept me off of my feet and I grabbed tight
How I love to see the back of my dress drape of lace
Imagine, how gay it is to witness sunlight.
On to the pastel path, strolling, out of sight
Sparrows merrily chirping along the gates
Waking up to broad daylight
Imagine, how gay it is to witness sunlight.
Day 24: Free Writing - Social Antics
Any lump of news that we read now on unassociated sites
Instantly becomes the truth without further validity required
Society yaps about shenanigans of individuals of interest
For which the less delighted ones remark them as "blah blah blah".
A single playful picture can be fabricated
A single innocent tweet can be exaggerated
A single wardrobe malfunction will be remembered
till someone else makes a blunder.
For which the baby boomers strongly deprecate
Gen X sees the necessity to properly regulate
Gen Y feels that every story deserves a speculation
Leaving Gen Z to curse the above to eternal damnation.
Day 25: Money
When you have all the money in the world
and you are given the choice to alleviate someone's hardships
would you give up buying your treasured collection just to see the children smile?
would you give up eating Gordon Ramsay's pasta to witness a boy walk again?
would you give it up, for bravery?
would you, be selfless?
When you have all the money in the world
you are given the freedom to purchase the necessities necessary for the poverty-stricken families
you are given unlimited selection to select an orphanage to donate to
you are given the option to join an NGO aiding the poor
Above all, you are given the opportunity to help
Question is, would you?
Day 26: #Magic
How immaculately the earth revolves around the sun,
without humans ended up dizzy.
How euphoric is the tingle of a sensation,
without one knowing the source.
How a single advice from a stranger,
change a person's outlook on life.
How each one of us are saturated with philosophical convictions,
without devouring on the opponents' debate.
How the absence of judgement in relationships,
makes it all a lot less hectic.
How imaginatively illusional is love at first sight,
without emotional bonding, without physical touch.
Day 27: Funny Life
All of us have had that one co-pilot who says,
"Look, look! The next lane is faster!" *swerves*
All of us have had that one familiar voice in our heads that goes,
"Why is the red light for MY lane takes longer to turn green than that scoundrel's?" *grumbles*
All of us have had that one habitual thinking of,
"Oh, this queue at McDonald's is taking too effin' long. They should replace the waiter!"
All of us, being humans, are never satisfied
and this is indeed a fact, a funny one.
Day 28: Free Writing - That Dress
Hey you! Yeah, I'm looking at you
hanged in the back corner of that mahogany dresser
I dashed home as soon as I exited from Forever 21
your delicate texture requires TLC
it has been a good 5 years that we have been together.
I could not forget
how silky smooth you are to my skin,
you have supplement me with confidence
how undeniably sexy you made me feel,
you have certainly spiced up my life.
But now I have to let you go, temporarily
temporary may mean 5 hours
temporary may also mean 5 years
'it's not you, it's me' kind of situation
I.. I have substantially grown bigger, sideways
I'm sorry.
Day 29: Limerick (1st post)
There was once a beautiful dream,
It involves a considerable amount of whip cream
Both were moist
Oh what a hoist
That ended with plenty of satisfying scream.
Day 29: Limerick (2nd post)
I have strong feelings against goodbyes
They say, "we will meet again", I'll never buy
I'll shake your hand
Or let's form a band
That way, there won't be any tears to dry.
Day 30: Goodbye
Hellos and goodbyes are salutations that conflict
while life happens quicker than a blink of an eye
I prefer to say that I am a hello-addict
let's instead, have a chat and share a shepherd's pie.
It can be said in many different languages
which in Mandarin means "till we meet again"
I would reply, "over coffee and sausages."
"or if you'd prefer, over Chinese food accompanied by champagne."
Goodbyes are a non-permanent end-greeting
relationship continues by a telegraph post
Goodbyes does not mean anything
the time spent together matters the most.
